Raio de Sol

Raio de Sol (‘sunbeam’ in Portuguese), Canberra’s Community Samba Band, plays the infectiously joyful music of Brazil – the samba music of South American carnivale! Its rhythms are engaging and its spectacular dancers enhance the party atmosphere. Raio’s all-acoustic instruments include the agogo (bells), chocalho (metal shaker), shekere (gourd shaker), tamborim (small frame-drum), timbal (tall metal hand drum), caixa (snare drum), and surdos (bass drums). A workshop will demonstrate fundamental dance moves and let you try an instrument – no experience required.
